JANESVILLE—Local authorities are still trying to identify the body found early this morning on the front lawn of Mac Farlane Pheasant Farm, 2821 Highway 51 South, in Rock Township just outside the Janesville city limits.

Rock County sheriff’s deputies came upon the man at 2:20 a.m., and the Rock County coroner pronounced him dead at 3:20 a.m., said Sgt. Jay Wood.

“The preliminary investigation would not lead us to believe that this is a hit and run at this time. However, we cannot totally rule out that,’’ Wood said.

When asked if the cause of death was suspicious, Wood said: “We have not yet determined that. At this point, we are still investigating the cause of the death. Nobody has come forth at this time but that doesn’t say there isn’t any eyewitnesses.’’

The sheriff’s office also has no evidence another vehicle was involved.

“The investigation is too new. There will be more information forthcoming today,” Wood said.
