From the WCLO Newsroom:

The City of Janesville is looking for a few good volunteers to clean up flood damage Saturday.

Volunteers will report to Traxler and Riverside Parks between 7:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Workers will be provided with work gloves and tools. Water and snacks will also be available. The day will likely include strenuous activities with bending and lifting as a part of the job. Conditions will probably be damp and muddy.

Other volunteer expectations:

All volunteers need to be at least 14 years old. Please do no bring small children.

All volunteers must complete a liability waiver form. Parents need to complete the form for children under 18.

Cuts and blisters may result from the work.

Volunteers are encouraged to be current on their tetanus shot. If you need a tetanus shot, call the Rock County Health Department at 757-5440.

Participants are strongly encouraged to self-assess their capabilities to perform this sort of work under these conditions. Please do not bring pets.

People with respiratory or heart conditions are asked not to volunteer.

Please wear jeans or long pants and work boots. Long sleeved shirts are recommended; short sleeves are OK. Please bring gloves or safety glasses if you have them. Bring an extra pair of clothes to change into after you finish working.

Following volunteering, consider washing your work clothes at home with bleach separate from your other laundry.

Call the Parks Division with questions at 755-3025.

Why would it be unfair?

I see the Recap workers and many things, always working hard and in not-so great conditions and weather at times. They worked long hours helping during the flood. What's not fair is statements such as yours.

I think you are right! get some of those inmates that might want to get out and help. I think just because they are in there for doing something wrong don't mean they don't want to change their life around and help out some. I hope a lot of people will show up and help out our community. It would be the right thing to do.
