Northbound Interstate 90/39 near Shopiere Road is reduced to one lane today and will continue to be restricted through the day Wednesday, the Rock County Department of Public Works announced.

The driving lane is now closed, and it will continue to be closed through 8 a.m. Wednesday. The passing lane will be closed from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The area under repair is about 15 feet long, but the lane restriction is backing up traffic for a much longer distance, said Hal Mayer, highway superintendent.

Workers are making emergency repairs to the pavement, which has buckled and would be a hazard, Mayer said.

Message boards starting at the Illinois state line will warn motorists of delays.
