MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Just how well prepared is Wisconsin for a disaster?

That is one of the questions a special legislative study committee meeting for the first time on Wednesday will ask.

The committee will look at emergency management in the state and how government will operate during disasters.

The group was formed this summer and will meet into the fall. It may propose changes in state law for the Legislature to consider next year.

The bipartisan committee includes representatives from a variety of groups including sheriffs, fire departments, the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, the city of Milwaukee, and the American Red Cross.
