WINONA, Minn. — Trucks will roll again across the Highway 43 bridge at Winona.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says the bridge was set to reopen to truck traffic this evening, 10 days ahead of schedule.

Sign crews will continue working into Tuesday to remove all detour signs.

The bridge closed June 3 after state inspectors discovered corrosion in several gusset plates at the bridge’s Wisconsin end.

Repairs to the gusset plates began July 10 and allowed for the heavier vehicles back on the bridge. MnDOT said additional work will begin later this month to repair the pedestrian sidewalks and the bridge joints. Pedestrians and bicyclists still can’t use the bridge until that work in completed in late summer or early fall.
