ONALASKA — The U.S. Defense Department says a 25-year-old Wisconsin soldier has been killed in Afghanistan.
The military says Army 1st Lt. Nick A. Dewhirst of Onalaska was killed Sunday when his convoy came under attack in the Qalandar District of the Khost Province.
Dewhirst was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell, Ky.

Great posts everyone! This young man along with so many others from our past battles through the centuries to give us the freedoms we have today can never be allowed to die in vain. We need to start teaching our generations their true history and stop allowing the modern day intellects from erasing the truth from the public minds. These fallen heroes, such as Lt. Dewhirst, deserve much better than that. God bless all of our courageous heroes!
