Public hearing on Janesville's floodplain maps
From the WCLO newsroom:
Janesville's plan commission holds a public hearing Monday night about revisions to the city's floodplain ordinance.
Manager of Planning Services Duane Cherek says the changes are not a result to recent flooding, and the city cannot change the floodplain boundaries. He says FEMA has a separate process if property owners can show they shouldn't be included in the floodplain. The map is now expanded to include properties along the greenbelt.
The maps are used by financial institutions and insurance companies to determine the need for flood insurance.
