Dane County schools to open new vocational academy
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Six Dane County school districts are working together to create a new school that will offer both high school and college vocational classes.
The Global Academy will be open to high school juniors and seniors taking classes in four career fields: architecture and construction; health science; information technology; and science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The academy will serve students from the Verona, MiddletonCross Plains, Belleville, McFarland, Mount Horeb and Oregon school districts.
Verona Schools superintendent Dean Gorrell says the academy will help because there’s a need for vocational and technical training that’s difficult for individual districts to afford.
The districts hope to have a spot for the academy in the Verona school district and classes in at least one career field by fall 2010.
