EMMETSBURG, Iowa (AP) — Where’s the pork?

Authorities in western Iowa are looking for a thief with a very big payload — 120 market hogs.

The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office says that someone swiped the swine from a hog confinement in Silver Lake Township sometime between May 29 and July 10.

The theft was reported this week.

Chief Deputy Todd Suhr says his agency is investigating but has “no hot leads right now.” The missing hogs are valued at $19,000.

The owner of the confinement is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information in the case.

Does anyone else think it is strange that they didn't notice the pigs were missing for 10 days? You would think if you were feeding 120 pigs on a daily basis, it would be pretty obvious they were stolen. Although, I have seen farms, where the pigs are kept in tiny wooden stalls, and fed on a conveyor belt that goes past the front, and then one goes by them on the back, that carries away their "excrement" It was a pretty horrible sight, and actually why I stopped eating pork. If it was a factory farm like that, I can see why no one would notice they were gone. Even if they are dead, they are probably better off, then being with someone who doesn't care about them enough to notice they are missing for 10 days.

I hope whoever took them feeds them, the time frame for them missing was over a week. I don't know much about swine, but don't they eat on a daily basis? How is it that nobody missed them right away?

So this is what a story looks like when the AP tries to be clever with words....hmmm. I feel doubly sorry for the farmers with the missing pigs. They have 19,000.00 worth of swine stolen, then they have to read the story written like this.
