While a flash flood watch remains in effect for southern Wisconsin through Saturday night, the storms expected to hit the area tonight and tomorrow have weakened, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Sullivan said.

That bodes well for folks just starting to dry out from the flooding last month.

“Right now it’s really becoming more optimistic,” said meteorologist Marc Kavinsky. “There’s not as much of a heavy rain threat.

He said he “wouldn’t be surprised” if the flood watch is cancelled Friday.

The National Weather Service said Thursday the front expected to dump rain across the area this weekend was similar to the front that produced widespread flooding, but the situation is changing.

“It doesn’t look as strong with this system,” Kavinsky said.
