MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Dane County coroner says a woman found dead in a Madison apartment building was stabbed.

Madison police have identified the woman as 45-year-old Cassandra Mays. She was found in an upstairs apartment Tuesday afternoon. A 50-year-old man who lived with Mays suffered non-life threatening stab wounds.

A preliminary finding by the coroner says Mays died as the result of blood loss from multiple stab wounds.

Residents of the Burr Oaks neighborhood say thefts, drug dealing and prostitution have all been problems in the area.

This is sad... I'm out in california and I often brag about how wonderful Madison is and talk about how low the crime is for the size. It's still much safer than where I am (just an hour from LA), but this is still unsettling.
