Homicide suspect arraigned in Walworth County
ELKHORN -- A man charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the stabbing death of his mother will undergo a psychological evaluation after pleading not guilty Monday by reason of mental disease or defect.
Jeffrey Newberg, 45, appeared in Walworth County Court by video for his arraignment. His mother, Alice Newberg, 70, was fatally stabbed May 23. Both lived at N1000 Highway 120 in Linn Township.
Judge James Carlson will appoint a psychiatrist to evaluate Jeffrey Newberg, said Jeffrey R. Krebs, deputy first assistant state public defender.
Newberg’s plea means he claims he was suffering from mental disease or defect at the time of murder, Krebs said. He is competent to stand trial.

I think the earlier coverage said that he was on a mental medication that the family had noticed problems/personality changes from. If that's true, perhaps this horrible crime was actually a result of the (legal, prescribed) drug more than from the man himself, in which case that plea would be reasonable and might save his family from one more major grief.

Wisconsin needs the death penalty...this is sick.
If he is proven guilty he should die...killing your own mother is beyond help...
I'm tired of my tax dollars keeping these types incarcerated and alive..jmo..peace
