Four escape Janesville fire
JANESVILLE
Four people escaped a fire in a second-story Janesville apartment about 1:15 p.m. Sunday.
The residents—a man, woman and two small children—apparently were not injured. The man told a reporter from The Janesville Gazette that all in the household were OK, but he declined to be interviewed further.
Their names were unavailable. A loss estimate also was not available.
Janesville firefighters were dispatched to the fire at 414 N. High St. at 1:14 p.m. and extinguished it by 1:29 p.m.
Moderate smoke billowed from the upstairs as firefighters used an aerial truck to access the apartment.
The residents of the downstairs apartment apparently were not home at the time of the fire.
Janesville police officers told firefighters the apparent cause was overheated cooking grease.

A tight fitting lid placed on the flaming grease would have smothered the fire. Keep that one in your bag of tricks!
