WAUSAU

An 18-year-old accused of stabbing his friend to death in central Wisconsin will stand trial.

Police say Charles Mattson told them he stabbed 24-year-old Larry Johnson three times while Johnson was choking him in May.

Prosecutors originally charged Mattson with reckless homicide, after he allegedly said he stabbed Johnson in self-defense.

But after conflicting statements from witnesses, the charge was upgraded to first-degree intentional homicide last month.

A judge decided Friday there was probable cause that a felony was committed and so Mattson was bound over for trial.
