Rock County sandbag disposal sites

By Ann Marie Ames ( Contact )   July 9, 2008 - 8:30 a.m.

Starting today, Rock County wants residents of the towns of Milton, Fulton, Janesville and Rock to drop off unneeded sandbags at one of four sites. County workers will collect and dispose of the bags in an approved landfill.

--Towns of Fulton and Milton—Rock County highway garage at the northeast corner of Sherman Road and Highway 59 west of the Interstate 90/39 overpass.

--Town of Janesville—Behind the county public works department, 3715 Newville Road.

--Town of Rock—Old Airport Road, which is the former access to the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport from the south off Happy Hollow Road.

--Indianford County Park (east of the Rock River only)—The intersection of County F and County M. The county asks that users stack bags when they leave them. The site is only open until Monday, August 18.

maybe the overflowed sewage systems & septic tanks from upstream with all their toxicity might have something to do with this decision. Millions of germs are in this river water and any open wound is an invitation to these bacteria.

Why would they dispose of the sandbags in a landfill?
