From the WCLO newsroom:

The number of new single family and duplex building permits in Janesville is substantially down for 2008.

Community Development Director Brad Cantrell says Janesville will still see growth because it's in a growth corridor between Madison and Rockford. As of May 31, the year-to-date number of permits was 60 compared to 111 during the same period last year.

Cantrell says the numbers were closer to last year in June.

Not all duplexes are rental units. Many in Janesville are condo's, so you are making some big assumptions about the tenants.

Here is an article about Janesville's nuisance ordinance (the search function is your friend).

OK, the rate of growth (for new homes) is down.

Gazette, now show me the growth rate of new construction VS. existing home sales, and over the last five years. Please.

For there not to be "growth", there would have to be zero permits.

Thats easy to understand.

zoom, I believe he is talking about other types of growth, but not in rental type structures, i.e. single family homes.

If the year-to-date permits are down, how will Janesville see growth? Is he talking about growth in the future?

It also is called utilizing existing structures vs. building new ones and leaving fine structures to stand empty.
