Precautions in place for sandbag collection
From the WCLO newsoom:
Janesville officials are taking precautions as people begin to remove sand bags from along the Rock River.
Recovery team chair Mike Williams says the city will try to use as much mechanical equipment as possible to load the sandbags and take them to the landfill to minimize contact with the sand bags. All the sandbags will be taken to the landfill site, which has the approval of the Department of Natural Resources.
For the near future, the city will collect sand bags at Hedberg Public Library. That collection is intended as a test to determine the best way to collect them.
Three parks in the Town of Beloit are now equipped with dumpsters specifically for sand bags. Glenwood Park, Burrwood Park, and Armstrong Eddy Park are the locations designated for disposal.

Yeah, unfortunately, they're hazmat. It's not just sanitary sewage, it's oil and chemical contaminants as well.

The bags themselves are contaminated with the raw sewage that was dumped into the river in the past few weeks.

Instead of disposing of them, why don't they store them somewhere in case the city runs out of sand again next winter???
