TOWN OF BROOKFIELD, Wis. (AP) — One man was killed and another was injured after the two got out of their vehicles on an interstate ramp in Waukesha County and were hit by a car.

Sheriff’s officials say the men were trying to retrieve something that had fallen off the back of a pickup truck before they were hit on the eastbound I-94 on-ramp in the Town of Brookfield Sunday about 9 p.m.

One of the men, age 21, suffered head and internal injuries and was taken by helicopter to Froedtert Hospital in suburban Milwaukee, where he later died. The other man, 41, was taken by ambulance to the hospital after suffering a foot injury.

The 28-year-old driver who struck both men suffered a hand injury and was treated at the scene.
