Salt-sand mix to go on Walworth County roads
Be more careful on some Walworth County roads the rest of this winter.
Due to a regional shortage of salt, the Walworth County Public Works Department announced Thursday that it will treat county trunk highways with a mixture of salt and sand.
The mixture, which is used and effective in other counties in the area, should help stretch the county’s remaining salt supply, according to a department news release.
However, the salt-sand mixture does not melt snow and ice as quickly and roads may be more slippery in places. The county reminds drivers to slow down and use more caution during winter weather events.
Numbered state highways will still receive usual salt treatments, according to the department.

I take Hwy 59 and then cross over to CR-N on my way to UWW. Rock county party of hwy 59 has been descent. The instant I cross into Walworth county on CR-N it has been nothing but glare ice. This poses a great problem while approaching the Hwy 12 bypass.

I take Hwy 59 from Janesville to Whitewater when the weather is rough, but usually I take cnty A because I like not being passed on hills, and curves by people who must drive fast. I don't need a sign telling me I've entered Walworth country, either. I just notice the road gets clear all of a sudden. Sorry Rock County, but Walworth wins the road clearing contest, if there was one. I'm watching out for Mr. Black, too!

A big thanks to the Walworth Co. road crews. I take Hwy. 59 from Milton to Whitewater everyday and the Walworth Co. side is almost always 100% better then Rock Co.Thank you for knowing people's lives are worth more then saving some money on a salt budget and putting public safety first. County A is the same way also.
