Former Madison arts official pleads guilty to fraud, tax charges
MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The former head of a prominent Madison arts center has pleaded guilty to charges that he ran businesses from his city office and underreported his income.
Robert D'Angelo, the former director of the Overture Center for the Arts, acknowledged those offenses in federal court in a plea agreement with prosecutors.
The 63-year-old pleaded guilty to one count of mail fraud and one count of filing false income tax returns. In exchange, prosecutors dropped 37 other counts contained in his original indictment last year.
U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb says she will sentence D'Angelo on April 22.
D'Angelo's lawyer says his client might face a maximum of two years in prison under sentencing guidelines.
