Senate Democrats, governor differ on economic development plans
MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The economic development package backed by Senate Democrats differs from what Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle and Assembly Republicans appear willing to accept.
Senate Majority Leader Russ Decker said Wednesday that the plan could complement what Doyle wants or stand on its own. Decker refused to comment on Doyle's proposal, saying he hasn't seen the details yet.
Doyle's proposals focus heavily on tax breaks and other incentives designed to help small businesses in the state.
Decker says Senate Democrats' proposals are focused on creating jobs immediately in Wisconsin. They include more money for building roads, loans for technical colleges and increased money for child care.
