Reward offered in shooting case
JANESVILLE—Janesville Area CrimeStoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward for information about the shooting Saturday night of an 18-year-old Janesville man near the YMCA.
The 18-year-old was treated and released at Mercy Hospital after the shooting at 8:45 p.m. Saturday in or near the YMCA parking lot at Dodge and River streets.
Suspects in the shooting were described as a group of younger males.
A 14-year-old Janesville boy was referred to juvenile authorities on a charge of disorderly conduct and a probation hold, but police do not think he was the shooter.
Officers initially thought the shooting might be gang-on-gang violence because the 14-year-old is suspected of being affiliated with a street gang, but the victim does not appear to have any gang affiliation, police reported.
Anyone with information about the shooting can call the CrimeStoppers tip line at (608) 756-3626.
Callers will remain anonymous and might be eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
