The National Weather Service in Sullivan has extended a flood warning for central Rock County including downtown Janesville and Beloit.

At 10:59 a.m. the stage was at 12.1 feet. At this level, moderate flooding is occurring. Bitterly cold temperatures for the next couple days will likely cause additional ice jamming issues.

A flood warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported. Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected. However, all interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.

The river is expected to crest around 12.5 feet Saturday. A stage of 12.2 feet is considered a major flood in the Afton area. If the river were to crest at 12.5 feet, this would be the second highest crest in recorded history at Afton.
