Janesville and Beloit police were busy overnight issuing parking tickets to people in violation of the snow emergency ordinance.

The number of tickets issued won't be known until later, but after talking with officers in Janesville, at least 340 tickets will be issued.

The snow emergency ordinance in Beloit went into effect at 6:00 Monday night and remains in effect until noon today. In Janesville, the ordinance went into effect at 10:30 Monday night and stays in effect until the roads are cleared.

Mikki: What?! You're complaining? Like your street should matter anyway ... shovel it yourself.

Drop1puck and lierre04-
You can go to the City's website (link below) and fill out an econtact to let staff know specific addresses to check out. I know it requires some work and you do have to leave your name; however all econtacts are logged, assigned to a staff person, followed up on, and reminders sent to staff for any 'open' items older than a week. If you want to remain anonymous, then call the city (main number 755-3000) and provide the address. You don't need to leave your name, unless you want to be contacted with follow up information.

N. Walnut could use a few tickets for NOT moving cars. Same people, park right across from one another. In fact 1 car hasn't moved since the beginning of the year.

Not only that wisconsinheat, but think of all the abandoned cars? More than likely they would become property of the city and the city could auction them off. Just think of all the money our city could have! On a side note, it's not all renters that park in the street. My neighbor has his driveway packed full of cars that don't run and a boat. He parks his van in front of my house, and usually doesn't get a ticket. After the road is plowed, he moves back in front of his!

I say ticket them AND TOW 'EM. That way the streets can get plowed and that's the objective. The city should buy a tow truck. It would pay for itself with fines.

I THINK THE CITY SHOULD RISE THE TICKETS TO 100$ IF YOU LIVE DOWN TOWN THEY DO HAVE PLACES TO PARK ITS NOT THE LANDLOARDS FALT THAT YOU DON'T MOVE YOUR CARS TO THOSE PLACES ITS THE STUPID LAZY PERSON WHO OWNES THE CAR. THE MONEY CAN GO BACK TO THE CITY TO PLAY THE OVER TIME.

Heather,
Check the city snow emergency web site to see which parking lots you can park in thats closest to your friends home. That way she won't get a ticket.

I would just like some of you to know that some people, not me thank god because i dont know what i would do, dont have anywhere to park off of the street because they RENT and their LANDLORDS dont provide any kind of off the street parking for them in a snow emergency. My friend has been ticked twice now she would surely love to not get a ticket if she had somewhere she could park.

I'm very happy with the report of ticketing offenders. May I suggest now that if a person is ticket for a second time and maybe a third during the same season that the fine doubles, triples etc. Also next year's first snow emergency no warnings given. Ticket the owners of the cars...

They are sure busy giving tickets, why isn't Beloit busy plowing the roads? My street hasn't been touched, but they sure are fast with tickets if you don't shovel your sidewalk.

How many snow falls does it take for people to understand to get their cars off the street when we have a significant snow fall. Then when they finally dig out their cars they leave mounds of snow in the middle of the street after the plows have gone by. Give me a stack of tickets I'll help the police write tickets so they can get back to doing police work.
