Rock River creeps past flood stage
Beloit Township firefighters are contacting homeowners along the Rock River and closing Happy Hollow Park between Janesville and Beloit because of flooding.
Ice is jamming up and slowing the flow in the river, causing the water to back up, said Gene Wright, assistant fire chief.
“It’s not like a (Hurricane) Katrina, where we have a big rush of water,” he said. “It’s slowly creeping.”
The National Weather Service has extended a flood warning until Tuesday evening.
The most affected areas so far are in the Burwood Park Towers and Powers subdivisions near Riverside Drive, Wright said. Happy Hollow Park also was under water and would be closed, he said.
At 9:30 a.m., the river was at 9.47 feet, according to the National Weather Service. Flood state is 9 feet.
Because of continued cold weather, ice jams are expected to continue, which could push the river to moderate flood stage of 11.1 feet tonight or Monday morning, according to the flood warning.

This article and the similar accompanying piece describe these areas as being in Town of Beloit. Happy Hollow Park and Bass Creek Road are in the Town of Rock.
