Residents along river evacuated by boat
Beloit township residents and firefighters helped to evacuate three people from homes by boat because of flooding in the Rock River.
Water near the homes was shallow enough to walk through, but rescuers used boats because of the frigid water temperature, said Gene Wright, Beloit Township assistant fire chief.
The residents were evacuated from homes on Bass Creek Road and Christenson Road, he said. Four cats, two dogs and one ferret also were rescued.
Firefighters will continue to make contact with residents in low-lying areas as the river is expected to rise overnight.
