NWS issues flood warning
Yup, it’s still cold out. But the temperature isn’t the only thing residents have to worry about now.
Ice jams on the Rock River could cause flooding.
The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for south central Rock County, including the city of Beloit, until 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
Officials reported ice jamming this morning on the Rock River between Afton and the Illinois border. As a result, quick rises of the river stage are expected during the next 24 hours, possibly longer. Fifty to 60 homes along the Rock River south of Afton and north of Beloit are subject to flooding, according to the National Weather Service.
“Given the very cold conditions, water that enters homes may freeze, causing some structural damage,” the warning stated.
A wind chill advisory remains in effect for Wisconsin through noon Sunday.
