Construction plans for Highway 50

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is starting to gather input for a possible widening of Highway 50 from Interstate 43 in Delavan east to Highway 67 south of Elkhorn.

The department has the 5-mile stretch tabbed for reconstruction in 2015, said Beth Blum, project manager.

Forecasts call for the two-lane road to eventually be widened, possibly to four lanes the entire stretch. “This is in the preliminary engineering (stage) right now,” Blum said.

A study will look to identify sensitive areas that might hinder an expansion, such as Native American burial grounds, a golf course, homes near or in the right-of-way, a bridge over Delavan Lake and natural areas, she said.

Hwy 14 from I-43/Darien to Janesville definately needs this more than this area. I agree next on the list after 14 should be Hwy 12 between Elkhorn and Whitewater. If we're going to pay for this it should be at least for something that is really needed.

Michelle -

No reason for four lanes?

When was the last time you drove it? I would rank it in my top 3 busiest two lane stretches in the county, right behind the two lane part of hwy 12 from Elkhorn to Whitewater and right in front of hwys 11-14 west of Delavan.

This will never happen. Some of the houses along that strech are already close to the road. There's no reason for 4 lanes of traffic though that area.
