Jensen trial set to continue although proceedings lagging behind schedule
ELKHORN, Wis. (AP) - Prosecutors in the Mark Jensen trial are expected to begin questioning several current and former Kenosha County Jail inmates this week.
Jensen is the 48-year-old Elkhorn man charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the death of his wife nine years ago at their Pleasant Prairie home.
Observers initially thought the trial would last eight weeks. But after a single week of testimony, lead prosecutor Robert Jambois says that estimate might have been overly optimistic.
He blames the delays on lengthy and unexpected testimony on Julie Jensen's cause of death.
The jail inmates are expected to testify that Mark Jensen either confessed or plotted to silence other witnesses.
Prosecutors contend Mark Jensen poisoned and smothered his wife.
The defense counters that she committed suicide to frame him.
