Tornado cleanup continues
WHEATLAND TOWNSHIP (AP) – Cleanup efforts continued Wednesday, two days after a rare series of January tornados tore through southeastern Wisconsin, destroying 26 homes and damaging more than 75 others.
Volunteers, friends and families of homeowners were working in Wheatland Township to clear debris from the storms, fire chief Alan Kaddatz said.
It’s still unclear how many tornadoes touched down on Monday, but the National Weather Service said its preliminary findings are that there were two.
The twisters, forecasters have said, were part of an odd series of weather phenomena due to high temperatures on Monday. Milwaukee reached a record 63 degrees, far above the previous high of 47 in 1965 and again in 2003.
Forecasts call for falling temperatures and as much as 2 to 4 inches of snow starting late Thursday afternoon, meteorologist Bill Borghoff said.
