Rock County was under a tornado warning for about 20 minutes this afternoon.

Sirens sounded at 3:21 p.m. Monday when the National Weather Service in Sullivan issued a warning because the agency’s Doppler radar “indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado near Machesney Park, Ill., moving northeast at 55 mph,” according to the weather service’s bulletin.

The warning was lifted for Rock County at 3:40 p.m. A warning for Walworth County also expired at 4:17 p.m.

Weather spotters in Walworth County were calling out municipalities that were "under the gun" during the warnings, but it looks like the area has dodged a bullet. There were no reports of serious damage coming in from police radios, mostly just felled branches.

However, emergency responders from Bloomfield and Genoa City were dispatched to the 6600-block of 368th Ave., north of Twin Lakes, Wis., where a reported tornado touchdown leveled five structures just across the county line in Kenosha County, according to police scanner traffic. The report was very near Wheatland Center School, which is located at 6606 368th Ave.

I am a student at Craig, and i had already left the building when the siren sounded, (i was in a hurry to get home), but a couple of my friends who were still inside tell me that craig took safety precautions, and they had to get down along the lockers and cover their heads.

Is any one else even the slightest bit concerned as to why ALL of the Janesville schools didn’t take precautions on Monday, January 7, 2008, at 3:21pm when the sirens sounded in Rock County for the tornado warning? It is my clear understanding that a few schools did put their safety precautions into place and A BIG PAT ON THE BACK TO THOSE FEW, my sincere thanks!
