1 dead as I-90 remains blocked
Numerous traffic accidents with at least one fatality have stopped traffic on Interstate 90/39 from the I-94 interchange in Madison south to Dane County N, the State Patrol reports.
Traffic is stopped in both directions, and motorists should find alternate routes, a State Patrol spokeswoman said.
“It’s going to be gridlocked for quit a while,” she said.
A northbound Janesville resident reported that traffic was stopped all the way to the Stoughton area.
The State Patrol spokeswoman said semitrailer trucks figured in some of the crashes, and at least one person died in one of the crashes.
The Janesville resident reported dense fog with visibility limited to about 50 yards.
“It’s much foggier up here than it is in Janesville,” she said.
Some people have parked their cars and are walking around, she said.
She reported seeing Madison and McFarland rescue units on their way to accident scenes.
Dane County called for two mutual-aid ambulances from Edgerton at about 3:45 p.m.
