Obama endorsement expected today
MILWAUKEE (AP) – Presidential candidate Barack Obama is expected to announce a major endorsement from Wisconsin.
Obama’s campaign says campaign manager David Plouffe will make the announcement Saturday afternoon in a conference call with reporters.
Gov. Jim Doyle has not yet endorsed a presidential candidate. But, his son Gus Doyle, who is black, has endorsed Obama and is leading the UW-Madison chapter of Students for Barack Obama.
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has already endorsed Obama and was with the candidate in Des Moines on Thursday night when he won that state’s caucus with 38 percent of the vote.
Other prominent Wisconsin Democrats have endorsed Obama’s main rivals. Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton supports Hillary Rhodam Clinton, and Democratic Party Chairman Joe Wineke backs John Edwards.
The state’s two Democratic U.S. Senators – Herb Kohl and Russ Feingold – have not announced who they support.

I agree completely. There is no reason to mention that Gus is black. It just shows that prejudice is alive and well in the U.S. and its media.

Yeah, and why didn't you start the story with "Black presidential candidate Barack Obama"? You could also use white woman Hilary Rodham Clinton and white man John Edwards, just to be consistent. "White Man John" Edwards, now that has some potential for the Blues.

Here is the original text and how it should be edited to be consistent:
Other prominent Wisconsin Democrats have endorsed Obama’s main rivals. Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton, WHO IS A WHITE WOMAN, supports Hillary Rhodam [sic] Clinton, and Democratic Party Chairman Joe Wineke, WHO IS A WHITE MAN, backs John Edwards.

Isn't it enough, to explain why the particular endorsement is newsworthy, that Gus is the governor's son? Does his race matter?
I really dislike how his race is used here to help explain his political endorsement.
