NFL's former coaches honor McCarthy
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - Packers coach Mike McCarthy finished runner-up for The Associated Press NFL Coach of the Year in a vote of by media members.
But, a different voting group, NFL alumni, picked McCarthy as Coach of the Year. The vote comes from former NFL coaches.
McCarthy says the award represents the progress the Packers have made as a team and as a program during his short tenure. He led the Packers to a 13-3 record and the NFC North title this season just two years after the team finished 4-12.
McCarthy says he and his staff will spend the weekend at work, watching the playoff games and preparing for their next opponent in the January 12th divisional playoff game at Lambeau Field. He says they've already begun breaking down all three possible opponents -- Seattle, Tampa Bay or New York.
The Packers will play Seattle if the Seahawks beat Washington tomorrow. If the Redskins win, the Packers face the winner of Sunday's game between the Buccaneers and Giants.
