Trial set to begin in Elkhorn
KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) - Jury selection is scheduled in Elkhorn today for the trial of a man accused of poisoning his wife with antifreeze at their Pleasant Prairie home.
Court documents show that before she died 10 years ago Julie Jensen told a neighbor, police and her son's teacher that she suspected her husband was trying to kill her.
A letter she gave to a neighbor said that if she died, her husband should be the first suspect.
A series of court decisions determined that her letter and statements could be allowed as evidence at the trial of 48-year-old Mark Jensen.
Prosecutors contend he poisoned his wife so he could be with his girlfriend.
But defense lawyers argue that his wife poisoned herself and wanted to frame her cheating husband.
The jury is being picked in Walworth County on a change of venue. A Kenosha County judge will preside over the trial.
