Snowmobile fee hike moves ahead
MADISON -- The price out-of-state residents pay to ride their snowmobiles on trails in Wisconsin would nearly double under a bill passed by the state Senate.
An earlier Associated Press version of this story did not make clear that the fee hike would apply only to out-of-staters.
The measure passed Thursday would increase the sticker fee from $18 to $35 starting July 1. An average of nearly 32,000 such stickers have been sold annually over the past two years. The increase in cost would generate an estimated $500,000 for the state.
The bill must pass the Assembly and be signed by the governor before it could take effect.
