DNR Board creates new CWD hunt options
MADISON, Wis. (AP) - State wildlife officials say they'll give sportsmen three options for new end-of-the-year hunts in chronic wasting disease zones.
The Natural Resources Board wants public comment on whether to run hunts from Dec. 11 to 14, Dec. 15 to Jan. 4 or Dec. 24 to Jan. 4.
The first hunt would be earn-a-buck, which requires hunters to shoot a doe before taking a buck. The other two hunts would be earn-a-buck until population goals for the zones are reached. Then those hunts would change over to either sex.
The board plans to hold a series of public hearings on the options next month.

I am sorry if I worded that last statement wrong. I have absolutely no problem taking a doe and do not see it as a shame. I will take one every year for the meat but I also like the thrill of hunting deer and not just shooting the first thing that walks by. I also agree that a young hunter should not be brainwashed into not shooting a doe but I also think a young hunter should be taught about selective hunting and not blasting everything that walks into sight. All of which are hard to teach with these regulations.

Earn a Buck is okay once you get use to it. It seems that there is a shame in taking a doe now and everything is about the antler size. A young hunter should not be brainwashed in this. I agree in leaving the early bow season alone. Take a kid hunting to get them interested.

I don't like the idea of having a early gun hunt in October. Bow hunters work way too hard to have all their efforts ruined by gun hunting spooking deer just before the rut begins. Especially for a doe. I am a gun hunter also but it has gotten to the point in this area that I will go up north to hunt on public land just so I don't have to deal with gun hunters during the early hunt.

I think that they should have a 4 day early hunt antlerless only
A 9 day regular hunt
Then a 4 day anterless hunt
