Court appearance for men accused in Beloit man's death
VIROQUA, Wis. (AP) - Two Gays Mills cousins are free on bond after making their initial appearance in Vernon County Circuit Court in the beating death of a man at a Readstown tavern.
David Heisz is charged with first-degree reckless homicide in the beating death of 50-year-old Kelly Kuykendall of Beloit February seventh.
Mikeal Heisz is charged with battery and disorderly conduct, both misdemeanor charges.
About 20 of Kuykendall's relatives and friends attended the initial appearance Monday, many traveling from the Beloit area. Kuykendall had a vacation home in Vernon County.
A criminal complaint says Mikeal Heisz hit the victim after Kuykendall made a remark that angered the cousins. It says David Heisz then dragged Kuykendall to the tavern door and pushed him backward off a landing to the sidewalk and continued to beat him.
A preliminary hearing for the cousins is scheduled March 31st.
