A 24-year-old Beloit man led sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase early this morning before crashing his vehicle, injuring himself and his passenger, according to a press release from the Rock County Sheriff’s Department.

According to the release:

A Rock County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a 1994 maroon Saturn traveling erratically at 3:57 a.m. The car, driven by Wayne A. Zimdars, was westbound on Beloit/Rock TownLine Road, just west of County J about 4 miles north of the city of Beloit.

Zimdars was traveling from ditch line to ditch line crossing the center of the roadway.

After the deputy activated his squad’s emergency lights and sirens, Zimdars traveled southbound on Prairie Road at a high rate of speed. He failed to yield to the deputy’s lights and sirens and almost collided with another vehicle.

This caused Zimdars to lose control, slide off the east side of Prairie Road and strike a large tree. The vehicle landed on its roof in the intersection of Prairie Road and Vail Terrace.

Zimdars and his passenger, Ann M. Zimdars, 21, Janesville, were ejected, and treated and released at Beloit Memorial Hospital.

Wayne Zimdars was arrested for operating while intoxicated causing injury and other related traffic offenses.

The pursuit lasted about two minutes, covering about 5.5 miles.

The Beloit Police Department is handling the accident investigation. The Town of Beloit Police Department and Beloit Fire Department also assisted the Rock County Sheriff’s Office with stabilizing the accident scene.

The sheriff’s department this morning clarified the numbers involved in the case. The actual pursuit itself lasted about three minutes and covered about 3 miles.

heh an 84 yes I said 1984 cavalier being a 1.8liter 4 cylinder engine still had a top speed near 100 miles and hour. So its not improbable that a 94 even a saturn could travel as fast if not faster. Dependant on the model its extremely feasible a 6 cylinder can achieve 135 mph. I say this since I know a 94 thunderbird with a 3.8 liter 6 cylinder engine maxes out near 140.

It all revolves around the engine and transmission coupled with the state of the tires and road conditions.

BlackIrish why the attitude? A few people were just curious about the speed of the vehicle, is that OK?

Sorry if all of this talk about ciphering left a few readers feeling left out. I'll keep working for that junior officer sticker. It will come in handy the next time I make a citizen's arrest.

Show me a Saturn that can do 135 or 165!!!! Cmon people. I'm sure that 93MPH was maxing out a '94. Total observation by officer = 5.5 miles. Total Pursuit after activating lights and sirens = 2 miles.

I really didn't think that they could actually be traveling at those speeds. The math didn't seem right in the story. 93 mph sounds more like it. At that speed it would take them a little over three and a half minutes to cover 5.5 miles, not two minutes.

Probably not 165. If they were ejected after crashing going even 2/3 of that, they would be dead.

135 mph and its aproximately 2 minutes. provided it was a 6cyl vehicle it would be wide open. speed is limited by transmission gearing most 4cyl tops around 100, 6cyl around 130, 8 cyl around 150 so on and so forth.

The limiting factor usually is tires since most are not speed rated beyond.... 80 mph I think it is. They super heat and become prone to puncture from debris.

If this report is accurate, the vehicles would have to have traveled at an average speed of 165 mph. Is that correct?
