Lawmakers debate door-to-door sales bill
Senate Bill 80, or one like it, isn't new to lawmakers.
Phil Ellenbecker, the father of one of seven door to door magazine sales representatives killed in an I-90 crash near Janesville in 1999, has been pushing for better accountability by the industry for years. He's the main force behind the bill, which is backed in the Senate by Senator Jon Erpenbach.
Erpenbach watched, last week, as the Assembly version of bill hit a brick wall Wednesday. Although the Assembly small business committee gave it a hearing last week, an amendment introduced would effectively gut it.
The bill passed the Senate with no problems, but outside influences appear to make a difference in the Assembly. Erpenbach says if this version of the bill continues to fail, he's willing to take a different approach. For now, Erpenbach says, we'll just have to wait and see if the bill gets through the Assembly before the end of the session.

It would be nice if your report told us what the intent of the bill was.
