ID theft reports down in Wisconsin
MILWAUKEE (AP) - Wisconsin is bucking a national trend when it comes to identity theft.
While the crime continues to increase across the country, the number of ID theft reports has dropped for another year in Wisconsin.
The state had 2,450 cases reported to the Federal Trade Commission last year, a 3.4 percent decline from 2006. Nationally, complaints of identity theft rose 5 percent to 258,427 in 2007.
FTC figures show that in 2006, ID theft complaints dropped by nearly 9 percent over the year before.
Credit card fraud was the most common type of identity theft reported to the FTC nationally and in Wisconsin.

ID theft is down in Wisconsin. Thieves no longer had to steal personal information because the State of Wisconsin has a tendancy of making it public.
