Icy road conditions was a factor in a traffic fatality Sunday night near Milton.

The Rock County Sheriff's Department reports the accident occurred on Highway 59 about four miles east of Milton around 9:45.

The driver apparently lost control, over corrected and slid sideways into the ditch. The car then flipped onto its side and smashed into a utility pole, snapping it in half.

The 24 year old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma to the head by chief deputy coroner Chris Hawley.

Contributing factors in the crash were icy roads and imprudent speed. The victim was wearing a seat belt.

His name is being withheld pending notification of relatives.

As a utility worker, are you trained in deciphering the causes of accidents? Or the mechanism of injury/death?

The accident happened at around 9:45 pm. haaseman27 responded around 1:30 am. That's nearly four hous later. "The roads were a bit wet but not icy".
I'd be willing to bet that the salt trucks were called out almost immediately after the accident by the first responders.

My heart goes out to the family for their loss. I personally responded to the scence of the accident as a utility worker this morning at around 1:30 am. The roads were a bit wet but not icy in the area of the accident. The accident happened about 500 feet west of hwy 59 and Berg road. Anyone who knows the area knows there is a large curve in the road in that area. My opinion is the person may have been just not paying enough attention to what was happening and failed to negotiate the curve. But all in all much too young to have this happen.

morgansmom- I really enjoyed your theory on what businesses should be open and closed during a snow storm. But you failed to mention the jail that houses over 400 inmates. Unfortunately the inmates can't take care of themselves even though I'm sure the people that work there wish they could.
Regardless of how you feel about what businesses should or shouldn't be open people still have to drive in this horrible weather. No one can really determine what happened to this young person who died, but all we can do is pray for his family and not be so quick to critize.

Dini79: Do you see where it says "icy roads and imprudent speed" caused this crash? Imprudent means "irresponsible," "reckless," "hasty." Okay, maybe "smarter when they drive" was a wrong choice of words. How about "have some common sense when they drive"? And, obviously, losing control of your vehicle at 7 miles per hour did not, thankfully, have the consequences this unfortunate young man did. I have to believe the majority of "accidents" are caused by someone driving irresponsibly.

It would be nice if more businesses would take it upon themselves to close down when the weather is this bad. The only places that really need to be open are hospitals, ambulance services and police and fire stations. Even the Madison malls closed yesterday. Typically, if a person calls in due to weather issues, they shouldn't face repercussions unless they already have an attendance problem, in which case I guarantee you they won't show up to work anyway.

Gosh, margansmom, how do you know so much about what happened to cause this crash? I sure don't see anything in this article that indicates stupid driving. But I do remember a couple weeks ago losing control of my vehicle at SEVEN MILES PER HOUR.

it also say icy roads, maybe we should insist on better road care then what were are getting, articles always list speed as a factor if you loose control of a vehicle and no other reasons can be seen, how many towns are out of salt this year? why are they out of sand and salt, we live in wisconsin it s snows here , not like this is a news flash, granted no one can control mother nature, my point is every time there is an accident , someone comes on here and says STAY HOME,well i think we would all like to when the weather gets bad but sometimes thats just not possible,my guess is the ones that keep saying that dont work ,

If you have to go out, you have to go out. The article mentioned imprudent speed. Slow down, plain and simple. I can't believe how people drive when the weather is as bad as it has been lately. I'm sorry for this young man's family, but people need to be smarter when they drive.

Yet, another senseless loss of life due to inclement weather. PLEASE stay home when we are having these storms. WE ARE NOT invincible.
