UNDATED (AP) - Wisconsin is among top states with extended mass layoffs in the fourth quarter.

Labor observers say the seasonal nature of Wisconsin employment is the reason it's among top states, ranking behind California, Illinois, Ohio and Michigan.

Seasonal work affects a lot of jobs cut near the end of the year in Wisconsin.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics shows Wisconsin had about 12,000 workers affected by layoffs of 31 days or more at businesses cutting at least 50 employees.
