Obama plans major address in Janesville
Presidential candidate Barack Obama plans "a major economic policy address" after he tours the Janesville General Motors plant today, Wednesday.
"Senator Barack Obama will ... lay out his comprehensive agenda to restore economic balance and fairness, reclaim the American dream and create millions of new jobs," according to a news release from his campaign.
The event is not open to the public. It is by invitation only.
The Janesville Gazette obtained advance excerpts from the speech and will report on them in today's edition.

Well It was interesting going to Obama's website and looking at his voting record like someone wanted people to do. It seems he has had a lot of "not voting" on his record. I guess he doesn't take his job to seriously. The government simply makes it easier for people and businesses to compete and create jobs. The government isn't in the business of creating jobs.

jvldude -- Im not sure I would say lie. I believe that Obama really believes that what he says is true. The fact is, that no politician will tell the truth. That the changes, adpatations, are difficult and that all will be affected. They would never be elected. They over-simplify and keep subjects short, and I believe that they don't feel that most people really have the ability to understand so they just say things that sound good.
Beware -- of what you ask for or vote for, it may not be what you wanted.

I am sure most folks will remember come voting time that Obama shut out the rest of Janesville from attending his address. If you folks don't remember ALL presidential candidates lie to get into office

mludekin -- you must be kidding. Its all the fault of the business owners, the people that pay the wages, provide insurance, provide a means for families to pay for their homes, cars, vacations. It's all someone elses fault that I am not rich.
The fact is that there are wealthy people, and evrything in between that an the bottom. If unions didnt demand more money, then more empoyees could be justified. You can point to every level. Guess what will happen. People will lose jobs, payrolls cut to maintain the standard of living that executives are used to. You will see an inability to compete for american products due to increased protectionist measures on American goods. The middle class will suffer and we will move towards a two class system, slightly raisng the lower class adn significantly lowering the middle class.

I am never amazed at people spouting ignorance. Why are you all so upset? I can't help but notice that you offer only banal generalities to support your opinions. There is wealth of knowledge for you to access that is only a click away. Please, take the time to enlighten us. If Obama is all that, I will vote for him in a second.

He worked as a lawyer defending steel factory workers who lost their jobs. Yes, millions of jobs because we will have a President that cares about rebuilding our infrastructure instead of rebuilding Iraq's like McCain. Where are your priorities? Last I knew FDR created jobs in the New Deal. The Regan trickle down economics has been tried and many busines owners use tax breaks for their own personal interest instead of creating more jobs. They use that money to buy a yacht or a vacation instead of inveseting it back into their business. President's do create jobs....have you ever heard of the Homeland Security Department? Get with the program folks! It's time for someone from the younger generation...JUST GET OVER IT!

Unless he's going to reveal that GM is converting all new vehicles to alternate fuel (electric & otherwise) I am not inerested. I think it's crap that this event is by invitation only. Not everyone in town works for or agrees with GM. People who didn't get invited to todays event still vote next week and in November.

Promises, Promises, Promises. What has he done in the senate to create jobs? Why does he have to wait until he's elected President to create jobs? Last I knew Presidents didn't create jobs businesses create jobs. Obama's tax increases are going to hurt businesses.

Millions of new jobs? Wow, how ironic that Sen. Obama will be visiting a factory where thousands are offered a buyout and one of their subsidiary factories is permanently laying off staff.
