Madison breaks its record for winter snowfall
MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Madison's record for winter snowfall is broken.
The National Weather Service says it accumulated 1.8 inches of snowfall overnight, putting the total at 77.3 inches.
That breaks the old mark of 76.1 inches set during the winter of 1978 and 1979.
It doesn't count the additional light snowfall that is forecast to continue falling in Wisconsin's capital city through this afternoon.
Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz says the city is looking into having I plowed through the winter of 07-08'' T-shirts made up for employees in the streets, engineering and parks divisions, as well as Metro Transit employees.

It's the people's republic of Madison, the taxpayers will pay for the T-shirts and the city government doesn't care what the taxpayers think.

Has anyone been able to track down a reasonably official snowfall total for Beloit or Janesville this season. An article in a local free paper in the area gave an indication that we were far short of Madison's 76 inches, but I find that hard to believe, especially considering we had 7 more inches than Madison during "the big one" last week, and we had several inches more than them in the other two significant February snow events (not including today 2/12).
