Council approves first step in lake dredging
The Evansville City Council took the first step Tuesday night toward dredging Lake Leota.
The council voted unanimously to have city staff send a letter to property owners adjacent to the lake requesting statements on their willingness to participate in the project.
It would save the city $900,000 if landowners allowed sediment from the lake bed to be spread across their land, according to a Vierbicher & Associates report released last week.

I cannot believe that the city council would ask such a thing of the residents of Evansville. They knew when the lake was drained that they would have to dredge it two years ago. They have had farmers offer to take some of the sediment but that was stopped.
It is ok for the city to ask the residents to absorb the cost to re-landscape their property around the lake but what about the other people of the city who also enjoy this lake. What about the money that was spent on Main Street to put down blocks and keep the old town look to a large cost of the city taxpayers and yet is hard on vehicles which will eventually need repairs (shocks, tires etc...) and even the noise that the adjacent property owners have to listen to when cars travel this street. Heck, we even had to buy a new plow just for this part of the street so that the blocks wouldn't get damage.
I think that the city knew what they wanted to do back when they drained the lake and have left it dry for two years to play on the sympathy of the people so they could reduce their cost.
I am totally disappointed with out city council
