Dangerous conditions expected this weekend
The Rock County Sheriff's Department is warning residents of dangerous weather conditions this weekend. According to the National Weather Service, brisk winds and low temperatures will result in wind chill values between minus 30 and minus 44 degrees. Blowing and drifting snow will cause hazardous driving conditions, and the department expects some "white-out conditions" over the weekend.
The Rock County Sheriff's Office urges drivers to make wise and appropriate decisions on their travel plans.
Travelers are strongly cautioned:
Do not travel unless absolutely necessary.
Leave early and allow plenty of extra drive time for any necessary travel.
Travel at slow speeds and well below the speed limit.
Establish an increased safety zone distance between you and the vehicle you are following, especially if you are following snowplow and salt trucks.
Maintain control by making slow, deliberate corrections in direction or speed.
Anticipate hazards ahead and take corrective action early.
Use extreme caution if you attempt to pass slow-moving traffic -- snow and slush that accumulates between the lanes may cause you to lose control.
Allow for considerable extra time and distance when stopping.
Bridges and overpasses may be iced over well before the adjacent roadways.
10.Conditions may change quickly and unpredictably, especially when transitioning to different roadways.

This statement used the words "wise and appropriate", which can mean a lot of different things to different people. It’s basically a warning with recommendations. In other words, be advised bad weather is expected and here's what you can do to deal with it.
Stacey, I take it you're not into ice fishing. A person could freeze their butts of if they went out in sandals in Bermuda shorts. But I haven't seen that yet. You probably don't think much of snowmobilers either, especially the ones I saw out yesterday with their kids enjoying a family outing. Ice fisherman take a modified version of the "winter survival pack" you referred to; we call it gear. Out of curiosity, would you share the reason you had to go out as you "had no choice"? Was it work or a wedding (beware of Pat)? I'm guessing there weren't a lot of cancelled/postponed weddings Saturday (oh those naughty people). Incidentally, I did see the Sheriff's Department unload the airboat and take it for a 20-minute lap around the lake before they loaded it up and left. I don't know what that was about, must have been readiness training. In terms of driving slowly with flashers on, be careful doing that. You don't want to create a slow-moving vehicle hazard yourself. And don't be offended if others pass you, it may be warranted.
Hey Heat/Pat stop the world I want to get off. Do either of you have the human spirit to anyone else in a tough spot? I'm one of those guys who always stops for someone having trouble and offers help, as I did Friday night to a guy in the ditch. He was out and stuck before the Sheriff's Department warning (how dumb, right)? Would you have just driven by muttering? Did you go out yesterday? If so, what was the reason? Did you see the story on Anna Marsh (see car crashing into Woodmans)? What do you have to say about that...another dumb person, right? Accidents happen and I'm glad no one was hurt.
I was on the road at 5:30 am and heading home at 5:00 pm. I drove as the conditions warranted, but made it fine both ways. I feel my 20+ years of driving in Wisconsin winters have taught me a great deal about driving in poor weather. If you don't want to go out- fine. But realize not everyone has or is willing to spend so much of their time reading and commenting on these discussions. Sometimes I almost get the feeling that some of you discussion junkies think you're better than the rest of us.
Enjoy another 3-6 inches of snow forecast for Monday. (see www.channel3000.com)

Boy! I'm sure glad those tow truck drivers and Police officers, red cross workers, hospital workers, Nationl guards, and Sheriffs deputies aren't out "looking for new jobs!!"
I for one work within the county, and sometimes have no choice but to work on our scheduled days. I LIKE my job, why the heck would I look for a new one just because it snows? We live in Wisconsin, and guess what? It actually snows in WI. Fact of life, and I adapted to it. No accidents here!

IF you have a job that would not allow you to call in on Wed. and held you responsible for your missed time as though you were sick. YOU need to get a different job. ITS not worth you life.moco428 some people 'think' they have to go in. My friends daughter works for 7.00 a hr. and called in and they were very understanding. The only ones who should have been on the road were police,& fire and hospital staff, nursing home staff. The rest of the people just made the above's jobs alot harder.. Baloney.. Its not worth your life.

1st off, if MM wants to go out and free their Butts off (on the lake, at least they will not be in the way, Just hope they don't find the "channel Ice" on the lake.. It can go from 13" to 2" in a matter of a few feet.. I seen many people try to make it out on ice like this, (and not fare to well), GOOD LUCK FISHING - "BABE WINKELMAN"!!!!! As for the people driving, I hate to be sounding "invinceable" but some of us have to go out in this "Crap".. I have no choice, will have to take it easy driving, and give myself alot of room for the guy in front of me and hope that the guy behind me does the same, If it means driving with "4 Ways" and slow, I will do so..
please no comments needed, I will have to deal with this on my own...
But If you have to go out..Take along a winter survival pack, Flashlights , radio, Blankets, high energy food, water, and if room,, Extra clothes,(YOU WOULD BE SUPRISED HOW EASY IT IS TO CHANGE IN A CAR) Make sure you call and tell some one when you leave, when you get there, and have some one with you call and give Updates on your travel..
BETTER TO GET THERE LATE THAN NOT AT ALL.
SAFE TRAVELING!!!!

Pat: It is unfortunate but some peoples jobs did not permit them to stay home! There are people out there that do not get personel time or get paid time off. Some instances you may lose a job if you are a contracted employee. I for one am glad I don't have one of those jobs but there are people who do have them. It is not their fault they had to drive. I personally have a friend that is with in the 90 days of a new job and they said call in and you may not have a job anymore. What do you do in a spot like that if you have family to provide for??? Just be careful how phrase things on these blogs!

Do these people who insisted on going out this last week during the blizzard did they ever stop to consider they are not only putting there lives in danger but any one else who they meet on the road? (if they slide.) which one does not choose to do it just happens.
There is NO good reason for anyone to be out in that weather unless you are a police, fire or nurse or doc. Stay home.

I guess MarilynManson shot my last comment all to hell.
They'd better hope their dumb butts never need any help either. But someone will come to the rescue because that's the human spirit.
.
When MM's dumb butt gets in the way sometime they'd better hope the helping hands don't have their "attitude."

That's the spirit Wahoo_35, very noble. It's good to know your dumb butt won't be out so my friends and I don't have to deal with you getting stuck or causing an accident.
We're heading out ice fishing on Lake Koshkonong later this morning. Life goes on, even if its cold & snowy.

Think about this.

The ones who read and respond to these blogs are the ones staying home. The ones you are trying to reach are probably already out. In order to get your message across you have to find a different medium.
.
Guess you have to text them.

Now we all know, stay home. If you go out and get stuck, it is all your fault. And don't blame other people who don't want to come out and save your dumb butt.
