State employees had to work today. If they took off or left early, they used vacation or sick leave or no pay. And you all thought working for the state was a great job! Our boss sucks! We want Tommy back!

Why on earth would GM have to be open? It's not like people are buying their vehicles faster than they can make them. Take a day off. Take two. Don't worry, the dealers won't run out of vehicles.

I understand that hospitals and nursing homes have to be open and need staff at all times, but as far as factories, stores and all things in that category should be closed. They need to think emloyee safety and not how much money they will lose by closing for the day. My employer could care less what the weather is, we are all expected to be at work. Well not me, I chose my life. To all that are out in this mess please drive safe and be careful.

Hi All, and WoW, some folks have Said a Mouthful!

As for GM, I can totally understand the companies that DO NOT WALK the TALK they preach!
I am just about to start the unemployment claim game due to losing my job with EATON CORPORATION in Watertown, Wi., for being ......
ready for this......
7 minutes late, 2 Monday's ago when it started snowing on Sunday actually, still snowing on Monday, with a 47-mile ride in the un-plowed roads, and I GET FIRED THE VERY NEXT DAY for coming in 7 Minutes Late in the SNOWY Weather!

Yep, Wisconsin has a real way of protecting employees don't they? AT-WILL Employment? What that meant, was, FIRE the person if the boss is having a bad day! That's what that allows! Even after seeking legal counsel, that's what that means!

Yes, EATON preaches "Our people are our greatest asest"....yep....sure they are...
Some of "us" people, have been around the block at least once, and we do NOT buy the talk, unless you walk the WALK that goes along with it. Blah! is it really worth your life? your car? another persons health? stay-home and safe today! ;o)

All the closings but not GM! I'm glad to see that a place that preaches safety will put the safety of it's employees and those of Lear and LSI at risk for what? The vehicles aren't selling, they have over 100 days of inventory on hand. If an emplotee is late, they discipline them, (that's what was happening last night) or if you can't make it in, they need to use a personal day. Safety they don't care about, it's the all mighty dollar! It's going on noon, and some counties are pulling their plows and closing roads due to drifting. There are people that come from Chicago, Milwaukee and other far regions of the area to work. If they get in an accident, is it worth the costs? Here's another good one, an article stated if trucks can't get supplies to the plant they would charter airplanes, well if the weather is that bad won't the airport be closed? How bad do they need these trucks?

oh, but lab safety supply is still open. Their employees mean nothing to them. Every employee does have the right to call in when it snows like this, but it counts against their raise as an unscheduled absence. Which I think is just ridiculous, they get paid squat anyways. My wife had to go in today because she is still in the probationary phase of her employment there. And we live in Beloit.

I'm sitting on the patio and the temperature will be 67 degrees today. Now I know why we left Janesville.

I want to see the stores , the malls, target, walmart, shopko CLOSE> by being open you are only suggesting its fit for people to travel.

No one should be trying to get out to shop. We had advance warning of this storm and I for one went to the grocery yesterday.

Its not fit for man or beast out there.
