BELOIT — Beloit police arrested 18 year old Carlos Lee Salas of Beloit late Monday night in connection with a shooting incident earlier in the day.

Killed in the shooting was 17 year old Fernando Berrios Linarez. Captain Bill Tyler says the teen was found around 1:00 p.m. in the 1200 block of Dewey Avenue. Linarez passed away while receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Linarez was of school age but not attending school at the time of the shooting. He had reportedly recently returned from a visit to Texas.

Salas is being held on a charge of first degree intentional homicide pending formal charges by the District Attorney.

Tyler says the shooting is believed to be gang related.

An autopsy on the body of Linarez is scheduled today in Madison.

That's not a rude question...and this isn't text messaging, it's a forum. Maybe, someday, when you grow up, and MAYBE IF you graduate high school, you'll realize why people ask such questions.

this happened near my home. i saw the young man on the ground and i didnt think of who or what he was, i saw a person in need of help.so i went to try to help him. i didnt know or care if he was "a gang member". my thoughts are with his family who have to suffer with people's opinions of thier child. those who only worry about thier legal status aren't looking at the bigger picture. i suggest you take a step back and open your eyes to the tragedy of his family and maybe offer some kind of solution instead of being part of the problem.

someones citizenship is more important than a victim and their family?

why not spend some time helping to figure out a way to stop the violence rather than worrying whether or not someone is a citizen.

why does it take a teenage boy to get killed before we start questioning their legal rights to be in this country?

I am curious if either of these were in the country illegally.
