Janesville's snow removal budget for 2008 is half gone
JANESVILLE — Janesville's city engineer isn't panicking, even though the city's snow removal budget for 2008 is about half gone.
Jack Messer says snow removal is only part of the equation, and the other part, supplies, is also in good order.
Messer says a lot of work goes into keeping the city streets clear of snow and he thinks the crews are doing a great job.

Doing a great job? I don't consider it a great job when I have to drive through 2+ inches of accumulated snow to get to my house, (which doesn't get plowed because it's not a main street), which then becomes a sloppy mess, then freezes, and then thaws and floods the street. Then I have to dig out the storm drain because the plows have pushed 15 feet of snow on top of it. Thanks Jack!!!!

Um... dcsnick1, we've had one of the snowiest winters on record so far. So more snow = more snow removal. It would be irresponsible to budget for worst case scenarios. Look for upcoming articles regarding state and federal aid to help communities cover these increased costs. Also don't be suprised if the city dips into some reserve funds to help offset the financial impact from this extreme winter weather. I'm sorry you're jealous of the raises the city manager receives. Perhaps you should run for the position when it's next available?

I think that the job done this winter in keeping the streets clean after snow falls has been OK. I find it hard to believe that it's February 4th and the 2008 budget for snow removal is half gone. To the person/people who make the city budget.. WE LIVE IN WISCONSIN... WE DO GET SNOW AND SOMETIMES ALOT OF IT...HOW ABOUT PUTTING MORE $$$$$$ ASIDE FOR THE REMOVAL. You could get the money from not giving to city manager such a big raise every year.
